next Monday, December 26, 2011.
Sharma, the 23-year-old right-arm medium pacer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780, had sustained an ankle injury on the first day of the first warm up match against Cricket Australia Chairman’s XI at the Manuka Oval in Canberra last Thursday. The gangling pacer could deliver only
5.3 overs before a troublesome ankle forced him to leave the field.
Sharma not only missed the remainder of the drawn practice match but has also been ruled out of the second and last tour game underway at the same Canberra venue since December 19.
"Ashok Dinda will fly to Australia as a cover to Ishant in next 24 hours. My sources have confirmed this," revealed Ganguly while talking an Indian news channel.
"Dinda is India's best pace bowler right now and should have been on that plane to Australia in first place with rest of the squad," http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LN-Onyango-c1844 added further.
Whilst Ganguly is suggesting a replacement for the lanky pacer, the Indian management and his teammates are pretty optimistic about his chances of making the playing XI for the Boxing Day Test.
The media manager of BCCI, G S http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamaljit-Walia-c70096 told the media reporters on Sunday that Sharma had been advised rest till Monday and condition of his troublesome left ankle will be examined on Tuesday.
"The doctor has advised him rest till Monday. So we would have a fresh look at him on Tuesday. But the work on him is goinhttp://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-John-Goodchild-c52940 on and he's improving," said G S Walia on Sunday morning.
However, Ganguly, the former captain of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, has urged the selectors and team management to take a decision on Sharma’s prospects of making the Boxing Day Test squad.
Ganguly suggested that if the pace bowler is not 100 per cent fit then the tourists should not take risk of playing him next Monday as it is a lengthy tour and India should preserve its fast bowlers.
"This is a very long tour. If Ishant has pain in his ankle, then he should be rested for the first Test. The final Test of the series will be very crucial. You cannot play a bowler having even 50 per cent of fitness level."
