Ashton Baumann of North Shore Swimming-AK claimed gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke on foremost day of the State 2012 New Zealand Short Course Championships at Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre in Wellington on Sunday, September 30.
The 19-year-old Baumann faced tough competition from his strongest swimmer in the 100m discipline but with his unmatchable pace, he managed to overpower him over the finishing wall for the title.
He remained just a touch away from his following swimmer and hit the wall for gold medal with a splendid time of 1 minute and 00.38 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Jeffrey Arona-Tuifana’e of Howick Pakuranga-CO, who stayed 0.11 seconds behind and transpired on the finishing end as second best finisher with a nice timing of 1 minute and 00.49 seconds.
Tuifana’e was traced by Ben Walsh of Porirua City Aquatics-WN, who stayed 1.74 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 02.23 seconds for bronze medal.
Walsh was followed by George Schroder of AquaGym Swim Team-CB, who was 0.58 seconds apart and tapped the wall for fourth position with a timing of 1 minute and 02.81 seconds.
Fifth best spot of the event was secured by Julian Layton of Greendale Swim Team-HP, who was 0.26 seconds behind and clocked a time of 1 minute and 03.07 seconds.
The 18-year-old Layton was traced by Mitchell Donaldson of North Shore Swimming-AK, who suffered a deficit of 0.13 seconds from him and finished sixth in the race by producing an effort of 1 minute and 03.20 seconds.
Donaldson was traced by Shayne Kiekebosch of Fairfield-WK, who was 0.85 seconds apart and tapped the wall for seventh position by reporting an effort of 1 minute and 04.05 seconds.
Subsequently, Kiekebosch was followed by Jacob Garrod of North Shore Swimming-AK, who stayed half body length away from upsetting his preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 04.54 seconds.
In addition, Baumann was contented with his gold claiming effort in the breaststroke discipline and raked accolades for his notable effort after the session.
