Ashwant Gobinathan overpowers Cham Chen in Men’s Singles second round of 2012 Oceania Championships
Australia’s Ashwant Gobinathan proved his elevated skills by beating his team-mate Cham Chen in Men’s Singles second round of the 2012 Oceania Championships in Australia, on Wednesday, February 22.
Ashwant played attacking badminton against Cham and emerged as the winner of this thrilling fight that ended in three games.
Both shuttlers put up a superb show of fast badminton in the whole match. However, it was Ashwant who remained successful winning the fight and he advanced into the next round of the tournament.
In the first game, Ashwant started his run in an emphatic fashion as he took an early lead against his confused opponent and remained ahead on the score board until the end of first half.
After the break, Ashwant remained on track as he did not spare any chance for his opponent to fight back in the game.
He was quite positive in the game and remained ahead of his confused challenger throughout the set and won it with a huge margin of 21-14.
In the second game, Cham showed his brilliance as he played to his maximum potential and matched the speed of his in-form opponents. Until the break, both men remained close on the score board.
After the one minute interval, they remained on track and reached in the concluding phase without taking a comfortable lead.
At the ending points, Ashwant committed a few unforced mistakes and lost the set with a tight margin of 19-21.
In the deciding set, Ashwant took over the control of rallies from the starting points and pushed his rival in all corners with his incredible speed.
He was quicker in taking the bird from everywhere and executed perfect smashes in the right areas. Until the break, he set up a comfortable lead on the score board.
After the break, Ashwant continued his impressive run in the match as he did not let his challenger to level the score at any stage of final set. He remained in control and ended the final game with a striking margin of 21-13.
Ashwant won this Men’s Singles fight with a 21-14, 19-21 and 21-13 score on the board.
