Asia Cup 2012: Centuries from Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir help India annihilate Sri Lanka – Cricket News Update
India started their Asia Cup 2012 campaign on a winning note by thumping http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in the second game of the tournament played at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, on Tuesday, March 13.
A stand of 205 runs between the newly appointed vice-captain of the Indian team, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447 helped the defending champions post a massive total of 304 runs on the board, and in reply Sri Lanka were bundled out for 254 in 45.1 overs.
Kohli scored his 10th ODI hundred as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 went on to win the match by 50 runs. Gambhir also scored a century but it was the vice-captain who was the highest scorer of the match, and was bestowed with the Man of the Match honours.
The 23-year-old Kohli was thrilled with the win, bearing in mind the meagre time India had to prepare after the tour of Australia. The right-handed batsman was content with his efforts and was happy with the way things are turning out for him.
He said, “I am very happy with this performance. Considering that we came from different conditions in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 it is very satisfying. I was just trying to hit the ball well and I am happy that it was happening.”
When asked how he felt after being appointed the vice-captain of the Indian team, the 23-year-old said, “The vice captaincy is a great honour for me, especially at the age of 23 I didn't really expect it but I will try and make the most of it.”
Kohli praised his partner, Gambhir for the match winning stand. The 23-year-old further shared that he enjoyed batting with Gambhir as the two know each other’s game plan and can co-ordinate easily.
He said, “Me and Gautam have got big partnerships between us and we understand how we play. We run well between the wickets and we don't really need to tell each other what to do.”
