Asia Cup Match Review: Iraq 1-2 vs. Iran – Part 1
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Iran-c2923 was the side that emerged victorious as
they came back from behind after being one goal down and won the game by a single goal, 2-1.
The match was supposed to be a thriller and the Ahmed bin Ali stadium was jam-packed as the two great nations got ready to clash. The opener was scored by Iraq as Younis Mahmoud found the back of the net for them. However, Gholamreza
Enayati made sure that Iran scored and after equalizing against Iraq, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Iman-Mobali-c16920 scored the second goal to end the game dramatically in favour of Iran.
Both the teams played totally different formations. While Iraq relied too much on their attacking power, Iran were the ones falling back to defend a draw. Iraq played 4 defenders, 3 midfielders and 3 strikers. On the other hand,
Iran played 3 defenders 6 midfielders and a lone striker. With so many midfielders on the pitch, it was expected that the Iranians would dominate the game in terms of possession. However, their coach, Afshin Ghotbi had other things in mind and with the help
of those 6 midfielders, he would help the team counter attack as a long ball played forward always had three Iranian men fetching for it.
On the other hand, Iraq’s coach Wolfgang Sidka applied totally different tactics. His aim was to find the back of the net more often. While the Iranians believed on the defensive strategy, the Iraqis did totally the opposite. By
playing a 4-3-3 formation, Wolfgang was confident that his team would not only outnumber the Iranian team in terms of strikers; in fact, he also expected his team to score more goals. However, the Iranian team were simply outstanding in the defence and they
barely gave away chances after conceding the first goal.
The Iraqis started off well and simply outdid Iran in each and every department. They took the game by storm and went for the goal right after the game kicked off. During the 12th minute, the Iraqi winger Mehdi Kareem
crossed the ball towards the far post, but the Iranian goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emad-Mohammed-c12419 made sure he heads the ball towards the goal. The ball was travelling on target but
there was a possibility that it might crawl out of the pole. However, the Iraqi predator http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Younis-Mahmoud-c37553 made sure that he tapped the ball in to find the back of the net. With this goal coming from his side, he took his goal-scoring tally to 34 goals for his
country.
