Asia Cup causes cancellation of India-Pakistan series – Cricket News Update
The much hyped series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and Pakistan has been cancelled, as the dates of the series were clashing with the Asia Cup 2012 edition.
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) held a meeting in Singapore to discuss the matter and have passed their verdict that the tournament will be held as planned. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 is going to host the Asia Cup 2012 and the event will be played
during the month of March.
Subhan Ahmed, Pakistan Cricket Board's chief operating officer, represented the Men in Green in the meeting. Ahmed confirmed the news that the Indo-Pak series has been cancelled.
The chief operating officer, in an interview to ESPNcricinfo, said, “It was agreed that the Asia Cup 2012 would go ahead on the proposed dates. There was discussion of the ACC postponing the Asia Cup if both India and Pakistan
agreed to play their series within that slot but that idea has faded out for many reasons.”
According to International Cricket Council's (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) Future Tour Programme, Pakistan was to tour India for a series comprising of 3 Tests and 5 ODIs during March-April 2012. Since the series is dumped, both teams will now face each
other during the Asia Cup.
Pakistan last toured India during the 2007/08 session. The cricketing ties between the two countries took a nose dive after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Attacks on November 26, 2008. Pakistan and India haven’t played a single Test match since then.
Ahmed, the Pakistani spokesperson, was hoping to meet with his Indian counterpart and discuss the future of a bilateral series, but since N Srinivasan was not available, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sent Ratnakar
Shetty as their representative.
Ahmed said, “http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755-India series was not on the agenda at the ACC meeting but we were looking forward to Srinivasan coming across to discuss it. We had an ideal platform here to talk but he didn't attend the meeting. Shetty was
not in a position to talk on it. So I don't think India and Pakistan could play each other in a full series next year but they will meet in the Asia Cup.”
