Asia Seidt occupies Women’s 100m backstroke gold: Day two – USA Swimming Sectionals, Greensboro
Asia Seidt of Lakeside-KY occupied gold medal of the Women’s 100m backstroke on second day of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Greensboro on Friday, July 13.
The second day of the championship featured swims of 100m backstroke in Men and Women’s corner where the audience witnessed exhausting efforts of local players, trying to prove their mettle for gold medal.
The 14-year-old Seidt stayed considerably ahead of her challengers as she earned gold medal of the discipline with the timing of 1 minute and 03.06 seconds.
Her title-claiming effort remained 0.37 seconds faster from her following swimmer, Carly Smith of NCAC-NC, who proved her audacity for second position of the race by producing a time of 1 minute and 03.43 seconds.
Smith was chased by Micah Bohon of City of Charleston and Sydney Sell of Shelby USS-KY, who remained two body lengths behind and reached the finishing end with a joint finish for third position.
The duo remained 2.34 seconds slower from their preceding swimmer and secured bronze medal of the discipline by submitting a time of 1 minute and 05.77 seconds.
The bronze medallists were trailed by Caitlin Cooper of DYNA-GA, who stayed only 0.03 seconds away from securing third position and ended fifth in the discipline by reporting a time of 1 minute and 05.80 seconds.
Similarly, Cooper was trailed by Andrea Georoff of MAC-NC, who remained two arm-strokes away from her foregoing finisher and secured sixth position of the discipline by posting a time of 1 minute and 06.11 seconds.
On the other hand, Pedro Oliveira continued his nerve-wrecking form in the tournament as he sprinted his way towards the finishing end for first position. The 24-year-old Oliveira stayed half body length ahead of his strongest challenger and occupied the
title of the event with the timing of 57.13 seconds.
The gold medallist remained 0.49 seconds ahead of Michael Camper of Silver Bullet EL, who followed him on the medal rostrum for silver medal by clocking a time of 57.62 seconds.
Subsequently, Camper enjoyed an advantage of 0.48 seconds over Sam Lewis of DYNA-GA, who settled on the finishing wall as third position holder of the discipline by touching the wall with the timing of 58.10 seconds.
Lewis remained 0.06 seconds faster from Nichol Salyers of SA-GA, who completed his swim in fourth best place by posting a time of 58.16 seconds.
Fifth finest spot of the race was secured by Mich Christian of WA-KY, who stayed 1.02 seconds slower from overpowering his former finisher and completed his race by touching the finishing blockade with the timing of 59.18 seconds.
Furthermore, Seidt and Oliveira were pleased with their accomplishments in the 100m discipline and the session ended after all events.
