Asian Games 2010: Pakistani women remain unbeaten in T20 cricket to win their first gold medal
The women in green made history as Pakistan became the first team to win the debutante sport, cricket, at the Asian Games.
Pakistan has claimed their first gold medal in the Asian Games 2010 with a ten wicket victory over Bangladesh in the women’s Twenty20 final earlier on Friday morning.
Bangladesh chose to bat first as they gave Pakistan a relatively easy target of 93. The Bangladeshi women were bowled out for 92 in 20 overs. Bangladesh had a calculated approach as they kept on taking singles but the Pakistani bowlers gave them a hard time.

In reply, Pakistan’s openers guided their team to a win in just 15.4 overs without the loss of a single wicket. Opener Nida Rashid and Javeria Wadood saw their team to the finish line to grab the first ever gold medal for their country.

Wadood hit the winning boundary as she remained not out at 29.

She said that the win would be crucial to promote the game in their country as majority of the Japanese are unaware about the game.

The men’s tournament starts this weekend with the teams landing at Guangzhou on Friday evening.
