While the women Kabaddi team of India made an impressive debut at the Asian Games, its men counterparts successfully bagged their sixth gold medal in the sport.
It was perhaps a memorable and historical moment for Indian Kabaddi spectators as just a few hours later when their women’s team impressed the observers by clinching a gold medal at its debut participation in the discipline; the male Kabaddi team bagged
the yellow metal medal for the sixth time in a row. India defeated Iran in a pretty much comfortable quadrennial match which led it towards the top of the podium.
The Indian team which has been consecutively claiming gold medals in every edition of the quadrennial event since the inception of the Games in 1990, managed to outplay its rivals with an emphatic score of 37 against 20 in the match held at Nansha Gymnasium.
By the half time of the match, the game completely remained one sided against India’s 24 Iran had secured only 3 points. Besides depicting an impressive performance against the rivals in final match, the Indian side was also rewarded with bonus points in
opening half of the game.
Iran came back into the match after the crossover when it managed to display an impressive performance which culminated in its dominating the proceedings and marking 17 points against India’s 13 on the board.
It was good but it did not prove good enough to earn them gold as on the basis of overall results India proved to be a better side for grabbing six lonas against the two claimed by the rivals. India also led the game with 28 outs to stamp its superiority.
With two gold medals in a row and that too in a sport which has its origins in the subcontinent soil, Indians would have a reason to cheer about.
