Mixed Doubles experts Alfian Eko Prasetya-Shella Devi Aulia stunned Chih Lin Wang-Sih Yu Chen in group match of Badminton Asia Youth Under-19 Mixed Team Championships on July 1, 2012.
This tussle was first Mixed Doubles tie of an encounter between Chinese Taipei and Indonesia in Group B of this team event.
Both pairs remained head-to-head for 45 minutes to earn an opening match point for their teams but Indonesian campaigners locked the honour by registering final margin of 16-21, 21-11 and 21-15.
Though, Alfian Eko and Shella Devi had a horrendous start but they made amends in last two segments by dazzling the opposing team with a lustrous performance.
Meanwhile, Taipei shuttlers squandered their early advantage and failed to register their mark in crucial group match.
The twosome of Chih Lin and Sih Yu took off in perfect manner and kept their rivals grounded in very first game.
They mounted pressure by snatching five consecutive points straight away in the beginning and then doubled the impact by raising their total to 11-7 before the interval.
After mid-game break, they kept on adding valuable points at a steady pace and reached a dominating position of 16-12. They managed to place a decisive figure of 21-16.
However, story was completely different in next chapter of the saga as it saw the suppressed contestants of opening game rising on their toes during the second set.
This time, they launched an intensive campaign and left their challengers far behind by standing ten steps ahead of them at the end.
Alfian Eko and Shella Devi took the game to the next level by employing unbeatable tactics. They played with an attacking approach and confined their opponents in the rear court.
They established their grip with 11-6 total on points table and then served notice of supremacy with a staggering figure of 21-11.
This 1-1 match score position made the third set consequential as both contenders were just one win away from an important breakthrough.
The Taipei players showed laudable fighting spirit until half time but they could not match their competitors’ skills in later part and surrendered after reading a 15-21 margin.
This 1-0 lead boosted confidence of Indonesian campaigners and they transformed this initial advantage into a 4-1 victory.
