Asian Junior Championships: Sol Kyu, Yoo Jung depose Chun Hei, Sin Ying in Mixed Doubles tie
Mixed Doubles experts Sol Kyu Choi and Yoo Jung Chae overwhelmed Chun Hei Lee-Sin Ying Yuen and helped Korea clinch a semi-final seat in Badminton Asia Youth Under-19 Mixed Team Championships on July 1, 2012.
They sweat hard for 48 minutes to read favourable result of 14-21, 21-15 and 18-21 after three exhausting sets.
However, it was not smooth sailing to victory as Hong Kong shuttlers also put up some decent resistance all the way to final moments and walked tall despite of getting down in opening and closing game of match.
The Korean campaigners started beating in the very first set and gained an immediate advantage in no time.
They gathered five points in a row after 3-2 and built pressure by registering an 8-2 total. They did not drop this pace and finished first half with a respectable figure of 11-5.
After the interval, the twosome of Chun Hei and Sin Ying showed some spark and registered their presence with 11-13 but they could not go with same flow in final part of the game.
Sol Kyu and Yoo Jung regained their status by adding four consecutive points and bagged first set with 21-14 score on the board.
Next game was played in same manner but result was different this time as Hong Kong shuttlers managed to defy all odds.
They did not show any sign of bewilderment after the first set loss and turned their opponents’ plan of straight-set victory into dust.
In first half, they mounted pressure by reaching at a formidable position of 7-4 and pocketed full benefits of this early advantage.
They kept the opposing team completely under control and cornered them with an 11-7 total before mid-game break.
After the break, they did not drop this pace and levelled the match score with a 21-15 margin on the board.
However, their magic could not prevail in the decider as the Korean pair outclassed them technically and tactically.
Sol Kyu and Yoo Jung were bit sluggish in start which resulted in a 9-11 figure before half time but they accelerated their pace in later part of the game and stole the limelight with final result of 21-18.
