Asian LPGA stars overshadow Americans but Stacy Lewis fights back
Having taken over the top eight positions in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, Asian LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars are making it seem like the sport of golf has found a
new breeding ground for rising players — and the place is Asia.
Asians have proved in the recent past that they are in very sense talented as they virtually restricted American and European LPGA stars to perform well in most of the tournaments in the 2012
season.
With Yani Tseng of Taiwan having stood at the number one position for more than a year now, golf-crazy American fans have started to wonder if their national players will ever be able to regain
their lost glory.
Tseng is still one of the best and the most charismatic players on LPGA, despite her not being able to end her winning drought in recent weeks.
South Korean Inbee Park has come out as the next “Tseng” after she topped the Rolex Player of the Year standing lately. Having recorded top-10 finishes in the last nine LPGA tournaments and
a victory at the Evian Masters 2012, Park has proved that she is hard to subdue and she has a flair for improving her position in the world rankings as well.
Park currently ranks seventh in world rankings and appears to have set her sights on the top spot.
Although the star golfer has managed to record several top-10 finishes in the last three seasons, she stills has not been able to rattle top-ranked players like Tseng and Lewis because of
the number of her victories.
The South Korean prodigy has recorded only two victories in her professional career so far. She needs more wins if she wants to become world number one.
“After a few of those close ones, I finally did it this year and am so proud of myself. I want to give myself more credit for this win than the first win,” Park said while speaking to the
LPGA Tour.
On the American side, the only player that seems to hold a candle to battle-hardened Asians is Stacy Lewis. Lewis has crafted a solid career in recent months as she now ranks second in the
Women’s World Golf Rankings, and is set to trouble competitors with the spirit she has shown in most of the tournament in the 2012 season.
