Asian LPGA titans continue their domination
Asian Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) stars have now won most of the tournaments in the current season, including an epic major triumph at Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012.
Asian players’ domination continues to thrive, with Jiyai Shin having emerged as one of the most formidable contenders in the past weeks.
However, a question that has been raging since the start of the 2012 LPGA season is that whether players from South Korea, Taiwan, China and Japan will be able to continue their domination
for long or they will retreat if their long-standing foes from America toughen up once again.
So far, Asians have been able to keep a firm grip on the LPGA Tour, not only because of most wins in the season, but also because they have seized most of the top positions in the Women’s
World Golf Rankings.
Current world number one Yani Tseng has made a name for herself after racking up 15 LPGA titles since becoming professional in 2007.
Tseng undoubtedly leads the Asian line-up as she has also stood strong at the number one position for more than a year now —something that has troubled American stars for months.
However, the top-ranked prodigy is struggling to get back in form these days. Although she made a fine start in the 2012 season and managed to win three tournaments early in the year, her
winning journey appears to have halted lately as she has performed worse in most of the recent tournaments.
Despite Tseng’s desperate attempts to find her winning form, Asians’ success has overshadowed poor performance by some of the region’s players.
The LPGA titan has often spoken of how hard it is for her to remain at the number one position as she has to make sure that she avoids mistakes in every tournament she participates in.
In one of her interviews, Tseng said that there is no room for complacency as her fans always want her do her best on the course, which is tough.
Interestingly, stats show that Asian have won fourteen tournaments this season, which is far better than what the once-fearsome Americans have been doing in the season.
American contenders have won six events that also include the latest at the Navistar LPGA Classic 2012, which Stacy Lewis won.
Stacy Lewis appears to be the only American who has the courage to give a tough time to Asians. Lewis’s solid form is also evident from the fact that she has grabbed the second position in
the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
