Asian Tour, CIMB Asia Pacific Classic Malaysia
YE Yang is eyeing the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic Malaysia, which is coming to Mines Resort and Golf Club. The event carrying a purse of $6 million has been co-sanctioned by PGA Malaysia, Asian Tour and PGA tour.
A huge star cast field, which includes a few American big guns, top 25 Asian tour players and five sponsor exemptions, will be teeing off to seek the prize money of $1 million. According, to the press releases, 40 players will be teeing off and there won’t
be any half way cut in the event. But stakes are high that none of the American players will be seen in the top.
There are several reasons behind this notion. Firstly, the players are not accustomed to the unusual courses of Southeast Asia. They lack experience in this part of the World. Moreover, the weather prevailing in the area is hot, sticky and humid, which makes
the greens very confusing for the players. Chances are that they will get frustrated in a short while, hence making way for the locals to rise up the leader board.
However, there are few exceptions in the field, namely, Ernie Els, Luke Donald, Retief Goosen and Adam Scott. The players have a fair idea of the courses and the climate as they have been to the South East Asia quite many times.
Out of this group, Els has recorded only one victory in Asia, Donald has bagged top five spots, but never a victory. Whereas, Goosen and Scott have seized three wins on the Asian Tour, but currently they are not in the form to compete against players like
YE Yang and Noh Seung-yul.
Apart from these four, another young American is about to make his debut in Malaysia. Rickie Folwer will be teeing off in this part of the globe for the first time, but the way his form is running in past one month, stakes of him not making in the top 10s
are very high.
According to the experts, it will be a local who will surge up the leader board and set the course on fire. YE Yang is the betting favourite for the event despite the presence of his major competitor, Ryo Ishikawa. The winner of the 2009 USPGA championship
is the man, who is showing the desired traits required to achieve a victory here.
The champ, won the Kolon Korean open fortnight back by defeating leader of the order of merit Noh- Seung-Yul, in the presence of torrential rains. The victory indicates his strong form and his determination to fight. As per fight, Yang defeated Tiger Woods
in the 2009 PGA Championship, which clearly demonstrated the potential of the golfer.
The player is ready to take the charge of the field, which is posing no threat for him. Speaking to the press Yang said, "It was an average year on the PGA Tour but I've off set that with wins in China (the Volvo China Open in April) and Korea. I've got
two or three more events in Asia and I'm trying to make the most of that. Asia has always been good to me and hopefully I can play better in Asia than on the PGA Tour".
However, the only weakness possessed by the golfer came in the Iskandar Johor Open when he finished at 14th spot, which was three strokes behind Colin Montgomerie, a player who was out of form for 45-weeks.
This is it for the news that states, Asia Pacific Classic Malaysia, which is being sponsored by CIMB, will be conquered by YE Yang, rather than some big gun of America. Stakes are high for the Asian players as they possess the home advantage.
