Asian Tour event of SAIL Open all set to produce fireworks next week
The Asian Tour event of SAIL Open will be teeing off from next Tuesday in Delhi. The tournament will be played at the par-72 Arnold Palmer designed, Delhi golf course. Asia’s top golfers will be featuring in this championship and vying for top honours.
Total prize money sanctioned for this event is US$ 300,000 and all the golfers will be hoping to grab the championship trophy and the winner’s cheque.
Japan’s ace player Daisuke Maruyama is going to make his debut in this championship. He has performed exceptionally well playing on the domestic Japanese Tour. Maruyama is hoping to show his class and ability with the clubs on the field. The veteran who
has loads of experience will be hoping to improve on his record, as the 39-year-old has also been a two time champion on the Asian Tour.
Maruyama’s compatriots Kenichi Kuboya and Kodai Ichihara will also be playing in this four day championship. Kuboya has also won a few tournaments playing in his homeland.
Seasoned campaigners like Lam Chih Bing of Singapore and Australian Marcus Both, have also confirmed their entry for this tournament. Both these players have been playing on the Asian Tour since a while and have a few victories under their belt.
Daisuke is hoping to lead from the front, as no one from his country has won a tournament in India for the past seven years. He last played a tournament in India which was the Avantha Masters where he finished tied at the 45th spot.
India’s ace start Gaganjeet Bhullar will also be showing up in this tournament. Bhullar has been successful in the past and there has been a lot of improvement seen with his hitting. The 22-year-old youngster is hoping to post his third win on the Asian
Tour. He last won a tournament almost a year back which was the Asian Tour International. Bhullar is coming off a victory in a domestic tournament and is confident of finishing among the top-ten on the leader board after the event concludes.
Siddikur Rehman of Bangladesh has matured since he turned professional six years back. He has been successful playing on the Asian Tour as well as the Indian Tour. Siddikur won the Brunei Open last year and also had a couple of top-ten finishes since then.
The 26-year-old has improved on his hitting and putting, which has certainly paid dividends.
A few mentionable names like India’s Jyoti Randhawa, Thailand’s top player Chapchai Nirat and Sweden’s Rikard Karlberg will also be among the competitors. Karlberg is the defending champion who won his first Asian Tour event last year.
The championship, which starts next week is all set to produce some excellent under-par rounds in the tough and challenging conditions of the Delhi Golf club, India.
