Asian Volleyball Confederation reveals 2011 events calendar
The Asian Volleyball Confederation publicised the competition calendar for the 2011 season on 16 February 2011.
The calendar was finalised at a meeting of the AVC’s Sports Events Council in Beijing, China.
The official schedule of all the men’s and women’s events, including senior and junior championships during the current year, has been disclosed. The Senior Volleyball Championships are the main events of the confederation.
Senior Volleyball Championships
In the light of 2011 game plan, the AVC Women’s Championship will be held in Chinese Taipei from 15 to 23 September, 2011. A total of 16 teams will take part in the event. The participants include New Zealand, China, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Australia,
Uzbekistan, Chinese Taipei, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan and Iran.
Previously, the championship was held in Vietnam and it was attended by 14 teams. Thailand settled for the top position in the 2009 event. However, China and Japan followed up in the second and third slot respectively. The 2011 AVC championship will also
serve as the qualification tournament for 2011 World Cup and 2012 World Grand Prix.
The Women’s Volleyball World Cup will be held in November, 2011. The winners and runner-up team of the AVC Women’s Championship will get tickets to the World Cup. Similarly, the top four teams will be promoted to the World Grand Prix.
The AVC Men’s Volleyball Championship will be held in Tehran, the capital of Iran, from 26 September to 6 October. The teams from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Australia, China, Chinese Taipei, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Lebanon, Qatar, Sri
Lanka, Thailand, Uzbekistan, UAE and Turkmenistan will contest at the centre court. Following the same formula, the winner of championship (and potentially the runner-up) will earn slots in the World Cup.
The men’s and women’s teams from Japan will automatically be promoted to the World Cup for being the hosts of the event.
Club Championships
The 2011 AVC Men’s Club Volleyball Championship will take place from 12 to 31 July, 2011. The city of Palembang in Indonesia will host the vibrant competition of 12 club teams. Japan will host the 23rd edition of the Asian Men’s Pacific Cup, which
will complete its length from 17 to 19 June.
The Women’s Club Championship is scheduled to complete its run from 18 to 26 June in Vinh P**c province, Vietnam. A total of 8 women’s club will participate in the competition.  However, the 26th Southeastern Asian Games will be organised in Indonesia
from 11 to 23 November.
