Asian Wing in the spotlight for the Freshford Handicap at Gowran Park
The Freshford Handicap has attracted sixteen three-year-old runners with the €4,830 prize money at stake. The contestants will have to race over a mile, a furlong and 100 yards at Gowran Park on Tuesday, 3rd July.
The most promising entry out of the moderately successful candidates is, Asian Wing, Hawk Wing’s three-year-old chestnut colt out of mare, Blue Beacon. From the four career tries, the most recent falls in the 2012 campaign, and he is still to post a victory.
His career debut was in the Gordons Gin European Breeders Fund 2YO Median Auction Maiden on 22nd July, 2011 at Down Royal over seven furlongs. Getting away with the maiden was, Slim Chance. After failing miserably in the next two races, with a
thirteenth and then a tenth position, the Takashi Kodama trained improvised the ranking to a second position in the seasonal debut.
Asian Wing qualified as the runner up in the Ratoath Handicap (Division I) on 13th June at Fairyhouse over a mile and two furlongs. The race was won by Lough Ferrib who had the final length under his belt.
The three-year-old did not get into a high gear towards the beginning of the race rather held up, and thundered only when entering the straight. Two furlongs to go and the Cold Horse Club Limited bred ranked sixth, and was fourth one furlong down but did
not let the firm grip go lose, and thus qualified as the runner up.
Coming at terms with the third position was, Celestial Prospect.
The chestnut colt has raced at four different race courses and has become a mount for four different riders over the four races that he was a part of.
Today he will close in on the distance with jockey, Masami Matsuoka, and will share his first racing experience at Gowran Park with him. The two will race out of the sixteenth stall, and take down competition from there on.
His performance in the previous outing has instigated the expectations of claiming the race today which should not be much of a challenge as the rest of the line-up is pretty harmless with insignificant or no accomplishments at all.
