Asian men and gambling? casinos and bookies?

Question

ive been going to the casino recently with friends to celebrate finishing uni and have noticed that it is full of asian men (mostly chinese), this being in hull with a very small ethnic minority.

ive also noticed that there are alot in the bookmakers.

ive also noticed that they're not doing 50p bets like me and my friends but £200 spread over 6 numbers (of 37)

has anyone else noticed this?

It's a cultural thing.

To the Chinese, good fortune is seen as a blessing and gambling is a way to see if fortune is simling on them.

That's why they choose games with high margins like Sic Bo and Keno - if you're lucky, the reasoning goes, you'll overcome those odds.

They also have confidence in their business acumen and will seek to make back any gambling losses through hard work.

im in florida, and most of the asian guys here gamble very heavily, it seems to be part of their culture. and they chain smoke.our casinos are loaded with them.

Gambling is really huge in Asian culture.  Chinese new year is like one of the busiest days of the year for gambling in Las Vegas.

I'm Asian and I generally don't gamble. I was just in Vegas this year for a friends bachelor party, and I didn't do any gambling. My dad is the same way, he never gambles. I guess it's just not our thing.

Asian men gamble.  Asian women also.  Chinese and Vietnamese cultures encourage the entrepreneurial spirit which goes hand-in-hand with casino gaming.  It is the same risk-taking, profit-seeking spirit.  This is most obvious at the baccarat tables.  

I also see a lot of Hawaiians of Asian ancestry (mostly with Japanese names) playing a lot of craps.  It has been adopted into their culture from the Asian immigrants there.  

In China and Vietnam there are long traditions of gambling.  

Other Asian countries do not have nearly as strong a gambling culture.

It is interesting to note that the gambling culture and the business entrepreneur culture coincide.

the price of fried rice, what else would you do with all the money the takeaways make,   they rip you off,  plus they can see very well and a twenty pond note looks like a fiver,  aaah sawww the lot of them.

First of all they outnumber us by 5 to 1 so that is a reason. But the more likely reason is twofold. First they have a TON of disposable income. Casinos thrive on people with disposable income. Secondly gambling and games of chance are ingrained in the Asian culture so where better to practice that than in casino..
