Asian players draw inspiration from Yani Tseng
Current world number one Yani Tseng, who still seems to be as strong as ever despite not winning a title in recent LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournaments, has inspired several players with
her stunning accomplishments.
The last LPGA tournament, Evian Masters, saw the top-ranked prodigy perform below average, as she failed to make the cut. Yet, she looks like she is still not complacent after racking up multiple titles on
the Tour.
After she crashed out of the Evian Masters 2012 without making an effort, Tseng’s fans had expressed their disappointment over her grim performance, but her image as an icon in women’s golf is something that
has influenced many players.
Tseng might have hampered most of the players from grabbing the top spot in the last one year, but there are some players from Asian countries, who think that the Taiwanese golfer is the only player in women’s
golf who has ended the supremacy of the United States and Europe.
The claim sounds pretty logical, as most of the Americans are faltering these days, struggling to prove their mettle on the LPGA Tour once again. Given the latest stats and the positions in the Women’s World
Golf Rankings, most of the American players have been pushed out of the top 100.
The only player who is struggling to regain lost American glory is Stacy Lewis. Lewis has emerged as a growing threat lately, as she now ranks second in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
Most of the Asian players, especially the rising ones, say they like to draw on the accomplishments of Tseng, as they attempt to make a name for themselves in professional women’s golf.
Winning 15 LPGA titles and five major tournaments is pretty special for Tseng, as most of her admirers want to live up to the expectations of their fans by doing the same.
Before Tseng dominated women’s golf, the top positions were held by European and American players, and it seemed pretty hard for any non-US player to topple the top-ranked contenders at the time.
Tseng not only snatched the top position from her American rivals, but she also prompted players in other Asian countries to put their best feet forward and make a name for themselves.
Some commentators say that it is Tseng who has promoted golf in Asian region. Women’s golf, which was limited to countries like the United States and Europe, suddenly expanded to places like China, South Korea,
Japan and Taiwan.
Commentators pointed out that much of the credit should go to Tseng because when she was winning events after events, the media put the region in the spotlight, and that actually encouraged local females to
join golf as a profession.
Due to her noticeable face in women’s golf and massive media attention, the LPGA giant soon became the most marketable female player in the world.
SportsProMedia recently published a list mentioning Tseng as the most marketable female player in the world — something that speaks of her talent and reputation.
“Yani’s infectious smile and genuine enthusiasm for golf create an aura that grabs the attention of galleries and living rooms, captivating even casual sports fans. People know they’re witnessing greatness,”
the magazine wrote in one of its editions.
Moreover, another huge accomplishment Tseng has gained recently is making it to the list of hundred most influential people in the world. Time 100 published its list a few months back, which heaped praise on
Tseng for her solid performance.
