Asian stars likely to maintain upper hand at Evian Masters 2012
Asian LPGA stars, who are going places these days, have made it quite hard for their American and European rivals to topple them from the top spots.
With Taiwanese Yani Tseng standing firm at the number one position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings and South Korean Na Yeon Choi at the second, it apparently seems impossible for once-feared Americans to make a major dent in the top spots.
However, Stacy Lewis, a rising American star, has been able to give a tough time to her Asian rivals in terms of rankings. Lewis currently ranks third in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, and is making all-out efforts to move ahead.
Before tumbling to the third spot in the world rankings, the American prodigy enjoyed the second spot for a few days — something that had put her in the limelight.
After South Koreans and other Asian contenders ramped up pressure by recording wins on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour, it became increasingly difficult for Americans and Europeans to hold their ground, and they slipped to lower positions in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
Analysts said that Asians will continue to hold the whip hand in the near future, given their talent, strength and work ethic. With several experts attributing Asian players’ success to solid work ethic, it has now become crucial for Americans to toughen up and regain their lost glory.
Suzann Pettersen, who had come close to beating current world number one Tseng a few months back, as she had managed to seize the second spot in the Women’s, is back to being edgy after falling to the sixth position.
Analysts said that Pettersen is expected to atone for the past lapse in the upcoming Evian Masters slated to be staged in France. However, a win by a European or an American player will not make a dent in Asians’ dominance.
It remains to be seen how the current leaders like Tseng or Choi are going to maintain their upper hand against their archrivals, but a dramatic result cannot be ruled out at Evian Masters as Europeans are eager to end their victory drought and dispel doubts about their credibility in the sport.
