Asians likely to shine in South Korea
The LPGA Hana Bank Championship 2012 is going to pit the best LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars against each other from October 19-21, at Incheon, South Korea, but there are a number of players in the line-up who are most likely to steal the show.
Current world number one Yani Tseng is being regarded as the hot favourite for the three-day tournament, as the star golfer won the last edition.
Tseng, despite winning the last event of the LPGA Hana Bank Championship, does not appear to be in her best form these days — something that may come as a big relief for some of the contenders in the roster.
Sharing her goals for the upcoming tournament and the next season while speaking to the media, Tseng said that she is working on her lapses, as this is the only way to keep moving ahead.
On the other hand, South Korean Na Yeon Choi, who finished second last year at the prestigious tournament, can become the star performer this year, as she is coming off a very good week.
Choi took part in the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012 held last week at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, with plenty of enthusiasm as the South Korean star was the defending champion of the tournament.
However, she was routed by fellow South Korean Inbee Park whose performance was nothing short of amazing throughout the four days.
Observers say that despite a huge and strong line-up, past performances and results of tournaments point to Asian players who are likely to shine this year too.
Observers said that winning events is not the only thing motivating Asian players, but the venue of the tournament—South Korea—is also a factor sure to help the local players perform well.
Cristie Kerr, who is one of the veterans in the field, said that she is confident about her capabilities, but given the recent tournaments, South Korean stars will maintain their ascendancy.
“It seems like a Korean is contending for a win every week now, and it's just pretty amazing how good they are, and it's becoming harder and harder to win. We have to step up our game and just keep working hard,” said Kerr who is trying to snap out of her year-long victory drought.
