Asians will look to hamper archrival Americans in next season
It is once again time for the American Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) stars to gain fresh exposure in the 2013 season, but the battle-hardened Asians will be standing firm to block their way.
The question has been looming large since the start of the 2012 season that whether the American contenders would be able to crawl their way up to the top.
With the 2012 LPGA season gone now, Americans fans have seen Stacy Lewis rise to the occasion, giving a hard time to big names like current world number one Yani Tseng and Na Yeon Choi.
But the end of LPGA season concerned fans once more, and with it came another spell of tests and endurance. With the season finale—CME Group Titleholders 2012—having been won by South Korean Na Yeon Choi, things look a little messed up again.
While the media was busy glossing over what Tseng did in Asia in late October and early November, Americans seemed to take a back seat yet again.
Although players like Stacy Lewis are being considered as revivalists of US golf in the recent month, Tseng grabbed attention after finishing third in two straight tournaments and fourth in the third tournament in Asia.
Lewis, by becoming the Best Player of the Year, might have overshadowed what the Asians have done all season, but a victory at the CME Group Titleholders has put non-Americans in the spotlight once again.
However, observers say that since Americans usually bring excitement to the sport due to media attention and plenty of tournaments on their home soil, it will be refreshing to see them gain ground in the next season.
Observers further said that fans in America have responded with keen interest, as they have been keeping an affectionate, but a wary eye on the progress of national players.
And it had become somewhat boring for the fans to see national stars lose a series of events inside and outside the United States.
Despite this, European LPGA titans can be something of a refresher for their American counterparts. With Suzann Pettersen having won two straight titles in Asia in October, it appears that the next season will see some major breakthroughs.
Although no European other than Pettersen has been able to rattle Asians, a shift in the top positions is bound to cheer up non-Asian fans.
