Asia’s first Professional Cycling Team 'Champion System' ready for its debut season in 2012
Asia’s first professional cycling team, Champion System, will make its debut in the coming season. American Ed Beamon is the directeur sportif of the team.
The team has started signing for the coming season as Will Clarke, Aaron Kemps and Clinton Avery are the first three riders to join the team.
Estonians Jan Kirsipuu, Matthias Friedemann, Mart Ojavee, Joris Hoillat, Jaio Pang Da, Wu Kin San and Xu Gang will also be riding with the team in 2012.
Charlie Issendorf, Marketing and Sales Vice President of the team, believed that the team’s goal is to promote cycling in Asia.
He stated, "From Champion System's perspective, our goal is to continue our efforts to support professional cycling and to do our part to help its development in Asia".
The team is sponsored by Champion System, an international cycling apparel company. Charlie stated that the team will help in promoting the brand and the players will be the company’s brand ambassadors.
Issendorf further added that, "It has long been the goal of the company to support competitive cycling's development in Hong Kong, China and greater Asia, and what better way than helping create Asia's first Professional Continental team".
The Australian cyclist, Will Clarke, who has been signed by the team, was representing Leopard Trek in 2011.
Team Leopard Trek has now announced its merger with RadioShack to form RadioShack-Nissan-Trek which has left many cyclists without a team.
Clarke has, hence, joined Champion System for the coming season.
The 23-year-old cyclist, Clinton Avery, will also represent Team Champion System in 2012.
He was a part of Team RadioShack in 2010. Avery won a stage at Kreiz Breizh Tour and also secured a victory at Vlaamse Pijl-Harelbeke.
The Australian cyclist, Aaron Kemps, is the third inclusion in the Asian squad. His addition will certainly strengthen the side considering his previous performances.
He was with Team V Australia for 2010 and 2011 seasons and secured a stage win at the Qinghai Lake and Tour of China this year.
The team is hopeful to start off its career on a positive note in the coming season.
Team manager, Ed Beamon, considers himself lucky to be a part of Champion System and is also pleased with the inclusion of the new players in his squad.
The coming season will bring many changes to the sport, the main ones being the closure of team HTC-Highroad and the merger of RadioShack-Nissan-Trek.
It will be interesting to see how the debutant, Team Champion System, performs in the coming season as one thing is certain that it will be facing a tough competition.
