  1. I don't think Mexico is safe, Spain is, but maybe it's not affordable if you are from the U.S.

  2. Peru is currently a stable, safe, friendly and beautiful country, where your dollar will go a long way.

  3. what about Costa Rica...

It is safe, affordable and it's an amazing place with lots of things to do and places to go. If you like nature you can go from the city to the beach in just 3 hours, or to the mountains in 1 hour, you can go for a walk in the rainforest or shopping in a mall in the metropolitan area.

  4. Panama and Nicaragua are stable these days, and your dollar goes a long way there.  I've been looking at these countries as possible retirement locales myself.

  5. My personal tip would be... the Dominican Republic.

Beautiful people, beautiful beaches, stable democracy, a central location.

    PS

To those insisting Mexico is safe, please remind us... how many policemen, prosecutors and politicians have been murdered this year? How many decapitated bodies found? How many people kidnapped?

None of that might happen to you (fingers crossed), but still... it happens.

  6. You'll have a good experience in all the following:

    1. Costa Rica, great beaches, friendly people

    2. Panama, Same as above.

    3. Chile, wonderful sights, nice people

    4. Argentina: great value, dinner and wine for two at 25 US$, very European, like Chile.

    Have fun!

  7. Panama is the hot new ex-pat retiree locale. People are beginning to think about Nicaragua as the next cool surf and vacation spot, but it's a little known secret I think, at least in the general public who still remember the contra stuff.

Also, Chile and Argentina are both rising stars in South America. Chile is much like California, and is very 'first world' in appearance.

Spain is expensive if you plan on retiring there, but if you have a job you're making 1.5 times as much as well because it's in euros.

Is English your second language? We typically would say "Aside from Mexico..."

  8. Hello,

Apparently Costa Rica is a good choice though it can be cocostly in the cities and areas where ex-pats hang about.

    Cheers,

    Michael Kelly

  9. Are you American? There's always Puerto Rico, Spanish speaking, great culture, and since it's an American Territory no passport hassles.

And you have the whole of South America to play with, except Suriname, Guyana, and Brazil (Dutch, French/English, Portuguese) they all primarily speak Spanish.

There's also Spain, but as mentioned it's not exactly cheap. The Euro isn't in your favor, but it's always an option if you can get used to the language. If you're familiar with Mexican Spanish then Castillian will probably be the dialect you'll be most comfortable in, meaning staying around Madrid.

  10. You must be talking about a different Mexico because I've never known it to be "safe."  Also, the "Spanish" spoken in Mexico is not actually Spanish but I mixture of that and Native American.

  11. The city: buenos aires is amazing.  It's like a mini Paris.

  12. Not really, Mexico is worth it.  Spain is probably your next bet.  However, Spain is expensive.

Edit: Mexico is not dangerous, wtf!!!! Yea, if you goto Mexico City.  Mexico is safe.
