Aside from not buying their product...?

... what is another way to let manufacturers know that their excessive packaging is unacceptable ? How can we really 'get through' to designers, marketers, and manufacturers ???

You need to do more than just refuse to buy the product, you have to let the manufacturer know why you did not buy it.   Write the company and tell them that you did not buy their product because of the packaging.  Then tell them you look forward to them redesigning the packaging so that you will feel comfortable with a future purchase

The market is slowly catching on, releasing "green" lines and organic products. People disagree on whether we should support big companies' efforts by buying these new products so they continue to release more or continue boycotting them (they make enough money anyway).

It's a choice you ultimately have to weigh for yourself, but I believe these companies need to be encouraged by our purchases. Keep voting with your wallet.

You have to get other people to stop buying. I recommend putting a video on youtube to get the word out. Tell your friends to tell their friends. It is important to have a reason too. Is the company packaging with non-biodegradable materials? Is the packaging harming the enviornment somehow? Then think of a solution. Good luck!

Manufacturers spend a lot of money to find out what packaging sells more quickly than others. In order to change their pacaging you have to ba able and willing to show them a way that they can make more money with different packaging.

Look at the video games - they could be sold in an envelope but they are sold in big boxes with lots of empty space inside. The reason they do that is because consumers will pay more for big packages than they will for smaller ones.

The packaging is consumer driven so you have to be the one to change things in your life. You can't expect to change anyone else. Maybe others who see you doing it will catch on and maybe they won't. You are only able to do what you can do. If there are enough individuals to make the change it will happen.
