Asif Bajwa denies Pakistan Hockey Federation’s involvement in visa scam – Hockey News
There were recent rumours about Pakistan Hockey Federation’s (PHF) involvement in sending the hockey players illegally to foreign countries with fake visas. However, PHF Secretary Muhammad Asif Bajwa has strongly negated any such allegations during a press
meet on August 2.
Despite clearing out the issue, it re-emerged after a former Olympian, Shahbaz Junior’s brother Nawaz Rana was recently arrested by the FIA on a complaint from Nasir Abbas. Nawaz was caught using fake documents and sending players abroad.
Bajwa while talking to the media said, “Just because a relative of a former player may be involved in such things doesn’t mean that a national sports federation is involved too.”
According to the Secretary, this recent arrest had caused the issue to rise again and said, “I thought we had seen the end of it but the issue was brought up again in some talk show on a private channel and some newspapers, too, a couple of days ago, which
is when we decided to do something about it.”
The Olympian, Shahbaz Jr. is presently residing in Canada and it is assumed that he involved his brother that later allowed Nawaz to begin his fraudulent activities in the past that earned a bad name for the country. Moreover, he continued with his filthy
business as well.
Nawaz was added into the Toba Tek Singh’s local coaching course in February 2006 district's Hockey Association Secretary, Shahbaz his brother, despite the fact that Nawaz knew nothing about hockey.
Meanwhile, the issue is being addressed by the PHF and a strict warning has been given by the Federation about filing an FIR against the criminals responsible for ruining the reputation of PHF.
The PHF top officials are in contact with FIA’s Director General for a thorough enquiry and have asked the body to take strict action against the culprits. Moreover, FIA must also ensure that such wrong acts against the sports body are discouraged in the
future as well. It will be interesting to see what the investigation into these illegal visa allegations comes up with and that all those found involved be stopped.
