Asif Iqbal impressed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s performance in the World T20 so far – Cricket News Update
Impressed by the Green Shirts’ performance in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Hafeez-c76898 and company have a serious chance of regaining the title, if they remain consistent in the tournament.
With 36 victories, no team in the world has won more T20 Internationals than Pakistan. On top of that, the Green Shirts are the only side to have played the semi-finals of all the three World T20s played so far.
Under a new captain, Pakistan have started the campaign in a positive manner this time round as well, winning both their group matches at Pallekele against New Zealand and Bangladesh. Plus, Hafeez’s men chased down a massive total against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in a warm-up
match, which boosted their morale.
While talking to Pakpassion, the former skipper said that the past record gives the Men in Green a huge psychological advantage.
"Pakistan is the only team that has reached the semi-finals in every World T20, so obviously they’ve got a very good pedigree," said Iqbal. "They have a very good record and have performed well in T20s particularly. They’ve won the tournament once in 2009,
been runners-up in 2007 and have been losing semi-finalists in 2010."
Between 1964 and 1980, the 69-year-old former cricketer represented Pakistan in 58 Tests and 10 One Day Internationals, scoring almost four thousand runs with the help of 11 centuries and 17 fifties. He was also a handy medium-pacer.
Iqbal understands that Pakistan have a number of match-winners in their ranks but thinks that the Green Shirts are an extremely unpredictable unit, which was quite evident during the warm-up fixtures in Colombo.
"They beat India chasing about 180 runs, but the same team chasing 111 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747, they played very good all-round cricket,"
he mentioned.
Pakistan will take on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 tomorrow in their opening Super 8 encounter, which is going to be a huge challenge as the Proteas are rated amongst the tournament favourites.
