Asif may seek political asylum in England
Suspended Pakistani cricketer, Mohammad Asif has indicated that he may want to take political asylum in England. It was reported in the media that the Pakistani pace bowler feared a huge backlash following his suspension from cricket after it was revealed that he may have fixed cricket matches.

The Daily Telegraph reported that Asif met up with a lawyer in England and had a half-hour long discussion with him.

According to the newspaper, the bowler was afraid that after these allegations came to light, there was a good chance that the dangerous criminal gangs from the illegal betting world could target him.

It was also reported that the cricketer asked the lawyer whether there was any way to stay back in the UK. When the lawyer said that he could either stay back on a student visa or a work permit, Asif said that he was looking at political asylum in the country.
According to the lawyer, Asif had looked anxious and afraid for his life. The lawyer also added, “There's been a lot of talk and there are undercover betting mafias with a lot of power - that seemed to be what he was worried about. If he wants to go forward then we will see what we can do for him,”
