Asjad Iqbal books final spot beating Mohammad Asif in semi-final of 3rd Ranking Snooker event
Hard work finally paid the second seed, Asjad Iqbal as he has breezed into the final encounter of the Jubilee Insurance Third National Ranking Snooker Championship 2012 at the Karachi Gymkhana Club. He was up against the reigning National Snooker Champion
of Pakistan, Mohammad Asif in the semi-final encounter of the event and was able to beat him by the score line of 6-4.
Both semi-finalists showed great performance in the initial group stages of the event and topped their respective groups to hit the quarter-final stage. The pair showed great determination in the Last eight stage as well and earn their respective places
in the semis.
Asjad was full of confidence in the quarter-final game against experienced potter Sultan Mohammad and trounced him quite easily by the score line of 5-0. Sultan had no chance to capitalise against the National Number one potter and tumbled down easily.
On the other hand, Asif faced talented Sharjeel Mohammad in his quarter-final match and defeated him by the score line of 5-2. The match was seemed a tough encounter in the first session but the second session of the game was completely dominated by the
current national snooker Champion.
The semi-final game was expected to be a tough game and the way it started between the two, it seemed that the game will end up in a decider frame but Iqbal never let it happen and grabbed early lead which helped him in the end.
The first session of the semi-final game was dominated by the champ Asif as he hit the lead by the score line of 1-3 clinching three consecutive frames. Iqbal took the first frame by 65-18 to put pressure on Asif but he was not successful as Asif replied
in a tremendous way hitting three frame wins by the score line of 10-72, 47-85 and 64-70.
At 1-3 down, it seemed Iqbal is out of the game and Asif will not let him lift up in the game. Things got real bad when Asif got another frame win by 57-70 to nudge his opponent 1-4 down. However, the tables turned after that when the youngster sprang back
with a spark in the second session and claimed four five consecutive frame victories by 61-52, 60-58, 94-8, 89-32 and 66-62 to show his true class and win the game by 6-4.
