Asjad Iqbal trashes Sultan Mohammad to book semi-final spot in 3rd Ranking Snooker Championship
Snooker fans who came to watch their favourite national potters in action at the Karachi Gymkhana Club witnessed a major upset in the quarter-final stage of the Jubilee Insurance Third National Ranking Snooker Championship. Lower seeded Asjad Iqbal dominated
over the top seed potter of the national circuit Sultan Mohammad by the score line of 5-0.
The winner of the National Bank of Pakistan Second National Ranking Snooker Championship a couple of weeks ago, Iqbal, performed outstandingly in the round robin formatted group matches and winning six games made his way into the quarter-final stage of the
event. He was up against the talented Mohammad who also showed great form in the league games at the arena.
The clash was expected to be one of the toughest games because both cuemen were in good shape. They had played against each other before and knew the strengths and weaknesses they possessed. However, Mohammad, despite being the favourite in the match, failed
to impress the audience and his followers in the quarter-final against Iqbal and tumbled down with a whitewash defeat.
Iqbal, on the other hand, displayed classy snooker skills and was looking pretty confident against Sajjad because of his recent form in the group matches. He did not let his opponent get any chances to overpower him during the game. He put a lot of pressure
on his opponent from the start of the match with his amazing potting genius.
Mohammad gave Iqbal a tough time in the opening frame of the match and went neck-to-neck with him in order to get quick lead but he was not successful. Iqbal countered timely to win the first frame and lead the match by 1-0.
The second frame was all-Iqbal-show as the Sargodhian potter swept the table in no time to win the frame by the score line of 98-1. Mohammad could pot only one red ball on his turn in the second set. The Punjabi cueman clinched the third frame with scintillating
game by the score line of 110-0 followed by two more frame wins which trashed Mohammad out of the tournament.
