Asjad Iqbal trounces Muhammad Asif to lift NBP Ranking Snooker tournament
Punjab’s Asjad Iqbal played outstandingly throughout the 2012 National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) Ranking Snooker tournament and made his way successfully into the final stages of the event. Despite being the unseeded potter, Asjad did display a marvellous snooker
genius in the initial stages of the contest at the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Creek Club Billiards Hall.
Meanwhile, the reigning National Snooker Champion, Muhammad Asif also showed a promising snooker show at the DHA arena and was able to come up to the expectations. He was under immense pressure when he was playing against the rookie Muhammad Majid during
his semi-final clash.
However, the National Champ managed to finish the game in his favour and set up Iqbal clash that defeated Shahram Changezi in the semi-final clash by the score line of 6-4.
The Iqbal-Asif final clash seemed a tussling encounter in the beginning as both potters went neck and neck to with the ambition to unsettle each other in the start and get a handsome lead which can benefit them in the end. Nevertheless, during this tussle,
the spectators preset at the arena enjoyed the game a lot which was eventually won by the unseeded Asjad Iqbal by the score line of 7-4.
While speaking to the local media at the end of the event, Iqbal said, “It’s definitely a big win for me as Asif is far better cueists than me. My dream is to equal the feats of Yousuf at the national and international level. I wanted to get into the footstep
of Yousuf to win the Asian and world titles.”
The clash began with a superb frame win of Iqbal by the score line of 83-33 to get early lead. The youngster made a tremendous move and cruised into three consecutive frame wins to extend his lead to 4-0. Asif was put under a lot of pressure when Iqbal moved
four frames up.
However, the National Champ sprang back into the game from the start of the second session and clinched three frame wins to move up at 5-3. These frame wins did not do any good and he tumbled down to Iqbal by the score line of 7-4.
