Asjad Iqbal trounces Shahram Changezi in final encounter of 3rd Ranking Snooker Championship
Jubilee Insurance Third National Ranking Snooker Championship finished successfully at the Karachi Gymkhana Club Snooker Hall featuring Punjab’s Asjad Iqbal retained his National Number One spot after beating talented Shahram Changezi by the score line of
7-2. The match up was expected to be the toughest encounter of the event because both potters were in good shape from the beginning.
The second seed Iqbal grabbed a lot of confidence from his flawless form in the opening matches which brought him into the play-offs where he continued his tremendous game play to unsettle his opponents. He defeated the reigning National Snooker Champion
Mohammad Asif in his semi-final clash to set up Changezi final contest.
The match up was an easy win for the Punjabi cueman as he did not let his opponent take any opportunity to unsettle him. He hit quick lead of 2-0 with victories in first two frames by 75-45 and 77-29. Changezi came back strong with one frame win but it was
not enough to stop Iqbal’s run. The National Number One claimed four more frames to move five frames up at 6-1.
After Changezi took the eighth set to add another frame on his side of the score board, Iqbal gave the finishing touches to the game by 54-21 win in the ninth set and claimed the title by the score line of 7-2.
Potters were placed in different groups where they played to win a place in the quarter-final stage. Both Changezi and Iqbal showed great performance from the beginning of the event and were able to make it to the final encounter.
The quarter-final line up of the Jubilee Insurance Third National Ranking Snooker Championship contained the likes of current National Snooker Champion Mohammad Asif, the former National Snooker Championship winner, Shahid Aftab, winner of the Second National
Ranking Snooker Championship Asjad Iqbal, the experienced Khurram Agha and dazzling Shahram Changezi.
The tournament produced some terrific snooker displays at the arena and has received a lot of appreciation across the country. Potters from around the country participated in the contest to improve not only their snooker skills but also their national ranking.
The tournament was divided into two basic structures of competitions; a round robin formatted group stage matches and the play-off stage.
