Ask for daughter's hand?

Question

how do I ask him for permission to marry his daughter? I've heard that you want to do it over drinks, but we don't drink. however... we do enjoy guns, and I'm going to shoot some clay pigeons with him tomorrow. maybe then... but only when he's empty. lol. we both enjoy karate, so I could ask him while we're sparring. Now this is actually safe since I'm taller, faster, stronger and I outrank him. lol. he's a really great guy and he's said I'm the son he never had. the biggest fight we've ever had is whether it's better to use gas or charcoal for steaks. I say charcoal. :p I'm getting the ring soon. should I show him the ring when I ask so he can see I'm serious, or should I wait until I get his blessing, and let her show off the ring? thanks!!

Congrats and you should get the ring whenever you want. Asking for her hand is after all just a formality. After he gives you his blessing you can show him the ring if you already have it.

My fiancee asked my dad while they were watching a baseball game together, something they both LOVE. Do it while you're enjoying yourselves. And for an added touch, include her mother in the asking. It adds some modernity to the tradition. My parents are divorced and he went to them separately and asked them. (And neither one spilled the beans to me!!) Good luck!

just make sure you kee it as informal and casual as possible... make sure that its just you and him together... it will go just fine... no worries!!! show him the ring if you want to... it doesnt matter... he may not even care about the ring... but he will be more enthused to know that you area good guy and will take care of his daughter...
