It's a shellfish - therefore, an animal (or living being).  It IS considered meat if you're a vegetarian......Otherwise, it's just a protein source, with LOTS of cholesterol (not the best choice for you)

It depends who you talk to.  It is an animal that has muscle.  Muscle is meat. If you ask a cook then no- it is a shell fish. Vegetarians all differ unless they are vegans; then it is a meat. It is the same with tomatoes. Scientist say it is a fruit, but nutritionist say it is a vegetable. weird. And the state of education in california consider ketchup a vegetable. So, I guess you need to decide for yourself.
