Askar Tau claims the Ascot meeting – Horse Racing Update
The champion colt Askar Tau claimed the Totepool Sagaro Stakes at the Ascot meeting on Wednesday.
The Group 3 race was run over a distance of two miles and included race-horses of age four and above. Askar Tau gave a spectacular win under the jockey George Baker. He managed to hold off the field of rivals and reminded the fans of the dual Group 2 victory
the he clinched during the 2009 racing season.
One of the other front runners, Akmal did justice to his reputation as he was easily able to finish the race in the second spot. What took the fans of the sport and all those involved in the business of horse-racing was the fact that Askar made it to the
first spot. After this victory, he has become an outright favourite for a couple of very prestigious events that will be held during the year with the ever famous sponsors including Victor Chandler, William Hill and Totesport. New quotes have already been
announced for him for the Ascot Gold Cup.
The six-year-old champion Askar race-horse trains under the watchful care of the trainer Marcus Tregoning. The tremendous win was a matter of great delight for the trainer since his gelding could not win or even place in any of the races that he started
in the last racing season.
In a post race interview, the trainer of the winning horse was reported as saying, “I’m thrilled. The further he goes the better he gets. He’s on course for the Gold Cup. Fast ground is vital to him.”
The delighted trainer further went on to say, “His Kazakhstani owners sent him back to me in January to begin a gradual build up to his campaign, which is what he needs.”
The credit of the victory that Askar Tau bagged, also partially goes to his jockey George Baker. As the field approached the straight, the pair was five lengths ahead of them. Baker managed to handle the horse and maintain a decent lead ahead of the other
competitors in the field.
