Question:

Asked to put my picture in job application

Is it weird if a job asks for you to send in a picture of yourself with your resume in an email? It is a front desk job for a modeling company, I sent it yesterday and they contacted me and want to interview. Should I do it?

  1. I agree with the other postee to be extremely careful if not sure whether they are an established company or not.  A young woman thought that she was going on an interview for a job found on Craigs list for a 'nanny' and was tragically found dead in her car trunk.  A 19 year old male had been taken into custody.  Just horrific.  So yes, please do investigate further before potentially putting one's life at risk.  Please take good care.

  2. It would be any unusual request, if it did not pertain to the position that you are applying for. You will be the face that everyone sees when people visit the company, its a modeling company. So, they are hiring you not only for your skills but your physical features as well.

  3. Yes...it's normal for that job. They want a pretty face at the front desk that's all. You should take the job.

  4. Image is everything, especially in modeling.  Look at your surroundings, everything looks nice.  It is one line of work in which the public eye plays a greater role than normal.  Hope that helps.

Also, they were gonna see your face when you go in for an interview anyways, so don't take offense to the upfront approach.

  5. For most jobs that is completely inappropriate, but since it is the "must look good" industry, they want to be sure the first person people see when they come into the agency is what they represent.

  6. Yes.

Most company's just like their employees to look nice.

  7. for a modeling company, no that is not weird.... for a sketched out back of the van type job, yes that is weird. If you are comfortable accepting the job knowing that it might be based on your looks, then by all means go for it. I personally wouldn't have even submitted my picture. if they were that curious about me they could just find me on myspace and go that route.

  8. do you want the job ?

  9. I guess since it is a modeling company they want a pretty face at the desk. :) Otherwise, I would say it is not appropriate.

Just be careful! Are you certain that this is a real company and a real job?

I know there are crazy people out there. Only go to the interview if it is during the day and is an actual building. If you get there and it seems weird in any way, do NOT go in.

If you found this ad on Craiglist or another free board, be extra careful.

Good luck and again, be cautious.
