The State only pays $25/day for Jury Duty. This would be a financial hardship for me. Will they accept that as an excuse?

  1. I don't think so, but they accept student status, or primary caregiver for a child.

  2. no it is your duty as an american to serve.  or you may be fined.

  3. Not likely.  But they would be the best people to ask - not here.

  4. Nope...probably not.

  5. Yes it is a financial hardship for you, as it is to every other person on the jury. It is your duty to serve on a jury if asked to. Your wallet will recover. How many people are asked each year to serve as jurors? How many people are denied the right to any form of participation in their government? The number asked to serve is sure to be far less than the number denied the right to. Stop whining and take part in your political and civil process. A huge number of people will die without having ever received that right...

  6. Most cases you're excused only if you're wealthy.  They want people who can relate to ax murders.

  7. Most of the time, yes.  They are people too!

  8.   I did jury duty so I'll fill you in.  You are required to go there for them to select a jury.  There are 36 people and they draw names, so 24 don't have to serve.  As they draw each name and call it out, the person comes forward and the accused gets to decide if he/she wants that person on the jury.  If not they will shake their head and the juror is excused.  The best way to get excused is to look stupid.  Show your front teeth, drop your jaw, and look around the room aimlessly.  Don't focus on anything, and listen for the word...excused.  It may also happen that they don't draw your name...good luck.

  9. No.   About the only excuse the might consider is that you are incarcerated in a Mexican prison or are undergoing emergency brain surgery.

Everybody has an excuse, and . frankly, the  jury commissioners just don't want to hear it.

PA only pays $ 9.00 a day ( plus parking.)

  10. As an American citizen, if you are asked to serve in a jury duty, you must serve as required by law. The only ways you can get out of a jury duty is if you are under 18, are a full time college student, or if you are a female and pregnant and due to give birth. Other than that, you must go and serve. I can understand that $25 a day is financial hardship but you cannot give excuses because as an American Citizens, you must do your civic duty and serve on the jury

  11. Absolutely not!

There are very few duties and or obligations defined by the US Constitution. Jury duty is first and foremost in the minds of Judges. I served on a jury panel in CA. where a prospective juror raised enough cain the judge called her down front and told her she had a choice to make right now live up to her duty or renounce her citizenship with the rights and privileges that go with it. He gave her 10 seconds to decide. She shut up sat down and never said another word unless asked a direct question.
