Asker prevalent in the Dumfries House Handicap (For The Eglinton & Winton Challenge Cup)
The Class 3 Dumfries House Handicap (For The Eglinton & Winton Challenge Cup) will be contested by twelve four-year-old and above runners on Friday, 21st September. The contenders will race over two miles, a furlong and 105 yards for getting entitled
to the £8,410 prize money.
The only entry to have raced and won at Ayr is the fourteen-year-old bay gelding, Sphinx. The Edwin Tuer trained won the John Smith’s Extra Smooth Handicap on 29th October, 2011 at Ayr over a mile and seven furlongs.
The bay gelding broke into a smooth pace and was prominent by the time two more furlongs were to be raced over. Despite getting ridden over, the French bay gelding remained determined and reeled in for the wire, defeating Chookie Hamilton by four lengths.
Coming at terms with the third position was, The Oil Magnate.
He has raced just once ever since the new season broke in, and that too resulted in defeat.
Snurge’s gelding ended sixth in the Play Online Now At Stanjames.com Casino Handicap Hurdle on 21st January, 2012 at Haydock over three miles with nine others racing.
He was riding with jockey, Callum Whillans.
Today he will be ridden by jockey, Patrick Mathers.
A highly commendable entry for the race is the four-year-old bay gelding, Asker. He has been active three times during the 2012 campaign, and has struck a back-to-back.
The Marcus Tregoning trained won the Weatherbys Bank Median Auction Maiden Stakes on 25th June, 2012 at Chepstow over a mile and four furlongs. Even in the moderate field of five, the four-year-old was really hard to notice until the final furlong
of the race on the horizon. He conquered the race track in the decisive furlong and defeated Villa Royale by the margin of good six lengths.
He next laid impression in the At The Races Handicap on 17th July, 2012 at Ffos las over a mile and six furlongs. Breaking out of the fourth stall and riding with jockey, Katia Scallan, had him defeating the favourite entry of the race, Bilidn,
by short head’s difference.
He is paired up with jockey, Graham Lee, for the race.
