Question:

Asking grocery stores for drinks?

My friend told me that if a grocery store doesn't have a certain drink that you can ask them to order some and if the product sells well, they'll keep it there. I was wondering if this is true? I've wanted to get my local grocery store to get various energy drinks and I was wondering if this is an appropriate thing to do. Thanks

  1. My dad works in a grocery store.  As far as alcoholic drinks, that's actually through legislation that grocery stores cannot carry alcoholic drinks with a certain percentage of alcohol (at least in MN).  For example, Target carries Mike's Hard Lemonade and other drinks with minimal alcohol, but you don't see Vodka there.  I think it's to make sure that liquor stores don't all go out of business.

As far as non-alcoholic drinks, it wouldn't hurt to suggest it.  My dad works in dairy and frozen, and if he knows a product sells well at his store, he'll try to order it.  The more people that suggest it, the more likely the managers will order it.  My dad has worked at his location for over 20 years, so he knows the customers well (and what they want).  He orders to fit their needs.  So give it a shot - you've got nothing to lose!  My suggestion is to ask some friends or family to ask for it, too.  One person asking may not seem to important, but if the grocery manager has 5 people asking for the same product, it will seem like a bigger deal.

    Good luck!

  2. I never thought any of it.

  3. Usually as long as the drink (or other item) is coming from a distributor that the grocery store already uses, they will order it in for you...that's the catch tho. If it's not a product that they can easily get then chances are you're out of luck.

  4. try it

  5. never thougt about it.
