  1. Vet.

I hope your hammie is ok!!!

  2. A teddy-bear hamster's average life span  is 2-3 years if it has been properly taken care of.I'm not sure what's wrong with your hamster .. if your sure that he's 1 year old ? You should go to a vet.If you gave him proper care ,vitamins, healthy food etc. then it should not be old age.

I strongly suggest you take your hamster to a vet.

I hope he/she's Okay!!:) I hope this link helps:

  3. I dont know anything about hamsters unfortunately but it sounds like she may have caught a 'cold' and may have a fever.

Its probably best you call the vet and ask if there is anything you can do to help your hamster, it may be more serious and require the vet to examine her.

Poor hamster, she must be feeling really miserable :(

  4. my last hammie did this just before she died of wet tail...took  her to the vet and she ended up dying there...i cried for a loong time...i know its hard to deal with sinse U AND I seem to have more compassion for hammies....My new baby is doing fine though (thank god) but i had to get everything new and threw all out that was my last ones bc i didnt wanna risk another death....look under his/her tail around the butt and if it looks messy it is wet tail and you can actually go to the pet store and get something called DRY TAIL ask the associate and mix it in his water or syringe it into his mouth...maybe the pet store owner might even help you do this....I hope you dont have to go through what i just did a month ago....good luck.

  5. First off, when you come here asking a question it is a bad idea to call the Rodents section "stupid".

That makes us not want to help you, since you aren't willing to listen. Yahoo Answers is a (partially) user-run community. We don't have to answer.

I will try and help, but only because it is a life, regardless of how rude the owner may be.

You should take her to the vet regardless, because she is obviously ill.

What kind of bedding to you have?

Pine or Cedar chips can cause respiratory infections.

Is she near any windows or air conditioners?

It could be caused by drafts, and nor she has a cold.

    How hot is it?

If it is above 75 or so, you should put a fan on facing the cage. Small pets are very susceptible to heat.

Also, it may be a tumor on the inside.

Hamsters and gerbils are prone to those as they get older, and I've seen it as young as 6 months.

You might say, "but she was healthy yesterday", but it is still a possibility. Hamsters are good at hiding illness until it is too late.

Case in point, although not a hamster, my dog hid her cancer for years and only showed signs of difficulty breathing five days before she died. She went on walks and ran in the yard with us up until then.

    Anyway.

    Vet.

  6. She sure doesn't sound healthy.  Take her to the vet.

  7. Your hamster may well need to see a vet.

Check that she has enough food. If it's winter, she may be going into hibernation sleep, then is really groggy when she wakes. Make sure she stays warm. My one hamster would 'forget' to eat when she hibernated.

Also, check the food isn't off. There may be food available but if it's off or she doesn't like it, she may not be wanting to eat.

Was she an adult when you bought her. Syrian (teddy) hamster typically only live for two years. She may be old.

Lastly, check that no aerosols were sprayed near her cage. The heavy breathing may indicate a chest problem or reaction.

  8. People didnt answer you because you know what to do, its obvious, TAKE IT TO A VET!!!!!!!!!
