Asperger males, who are dateless, loveless and sexless?

Being on Yahoo Answers for quite some time I have read quite a number of questions from Asperger males usually between the ages of 18-25, whom never had a girlfriend, were never invited to parties, or even broke their virginity yet and wonder if they ever will.

The unfortunate truth is, I can relate to this because though I have never been diagnosed, I am highly suspected to be an Aspie. I am 38 years-old male, who has never been on a date, nor been in an intimate relationship, still don’t know how to talk to girls in a flirty way that will entice them to like me, still have trouble making eye contact. To worsen the situation, I am dogged by the desire to be alone most of the day and am not able to handle well the human touch.

The bad news is that there is a chance your situation can continue to the age of 40 and beyond as it has for me.

The good news is, that there is more awareness of Aspergers and more services seem to be available to help integrate Aspies in developing social skills, so they won’t have to endure such stifling loneliness.

1. Making eye contact is paramount for any relationship, though we Aspies tend to view such things as confrontational.

2. The human touch, see if there is any sensory integration therapy as most Aspies aren’t too physical and sometimes. Perceive the human touch as pain sensation.

3. The need to be alone most of the day. To use in moderation, I know, easier said than done.

4. In classes, help groups, or online manuals that can help us Aspies develop social skills to make us more outgoing and engaging.

All of this advice applies to myself as well as anyone but to answer many younger Aspies, without radical change, you can go decades without any intimacy because I know I did and regret it.

  1. I guess we do have to remember that aspergers official criteria has only been around since 1994, so very few experts in this fiels and still no real answers for autism, no wonder so many of us are wrongly diagnosed, misunderstand and lost.... in so many ways not just emotionally.

  2. Thanks for this. I didn't even know it is a "condition". I guess that makes me an asperger female in my 30's. See, it afflicts the female gender, too :).
