  1. yes u can mix them to do ur pattern , they state that on the pack for normal installation and dont want u to use different die lot numbers cause the color will not be the same and u can spot is like a sore thumb.....

  2. If they are defective and you mix packages you won't be able to get your warranty, because you won't be able to tell which lot the defective ones are from.  Other than this, mix away

  3. They are assuming you are making the roof all one color. Having all the same color code insures the shingles are exactly the same color. So just make sure each group of colors you buy have the same dye lot.

  4. Most people want a consistent look to their roof so they need to be sure they have all the same color code numbered shingles.  Since you want a varied look it should pose no problem, other than the possible warrantee issue the other poster mentioned.

  5. bascially because the colors might not be an exact match, especially from a distance if you combine batches of the same color, but of different lots. Does that make sense? You basically would run the risk of having some shades a little ddarker than others and then they would not fade out the same either.

  6. Before you get "creative", make sure there are not deed restrictions in your neighborhood.  Also, be considerate of your neighbors!  If you live in the middle of a ten acre lot, go with your heart, but if your house is visible to the street and the neighbors remember this:   What you do  to the inside your home is YOUR business;   what you do to the outisde of your home is EVERYONE's business.   Being too "creative" (i.e, checkerboard roofing) could decrease the value of your home and everyone's home  in the neighborhood.    Really think about this before you make a move.
