  1. Hi there, you might find you'll find up a Canon Xl1s for about £1000 or the XM1 for under that on Ebay. Whilst you might be able to change the lens, the lens itself will cost you that again. It would be worth buying a s/h Canon for filmmaking as most of them are in really good condition. It's money better spent than on a consumer model anyway and you'll learn a lot about cinematography if you do find an Xl1s at the right price. The Canon XM1s do shoot as good video as the XL1s on most occasions but don't give you the manual control you'll need to get creative.

The Xl1s has set many aspiring filmmakers on their way so I recommend hanging in there on Ebay and getting one if you can. Just persevere and one will come up at the right price.

I hope that helps and all the best with your film making.

  2. Hey gmaiersx,

Sorry to break the bad news to you, but there is no camcorder with changeable Len's for under $1000.00 dollars. A camera with changeable Len's will start any where from $4,000.00 to 60,000.00. It all depend on how much you want to spend and what's your purpose.

  3. First, work on your spelling or else get someone else to write your scripts and title sequences.

How about the Canon GL2? It's a few years old now, so it's not as expensive. It has a smaller CCD (1/4" compared to 1/3" in the XL2). I don't think it has changeable lenses but it has an adequate lens.
