Aspiring photographer ?

Question

im trying to raise money right now for a new camera.

im really leaning towards canon, though ive been looking at nikon now as well.

can anyone please tell me the best cameras for both canon and nikon under or around $500,

i would like to take serious photos and have been looking at the canon powershot g9, but now am reconsidering if its really worth the money im saving....

I recently bought a Nikon D40 - $429 for the kit and an extra battery and card.

I've Been Considering This One:

But It Really Depends On What You're Gonna Be Taking Pictures of... I Take Close Up Pics, And I Don't Know If This One Even Has A Close Up Mode, Though I Don't Get Why It Wouldn't.  Its Really More About The Photographers Skills Than The Camera Itself.  I Take Decent Pics With A Nikon Coolpix L18, And That Only set me Back $150.  Good Luck

At that price the D40 will serve you well. you can go to kenrockwell. com and read up on them

Realize they have a much larger sensor than a point and shoot you have more control over your shots and you can change lenses.
