I have a Asrock K7VM2 Motherboard installed in PC (AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+) and would like to upgrade the memory. I have been told that it is very important to get the correct compatible memory. The Asrock website lists the compatible memory as: DDR x 2, DDR266/200 non-ECC, un-buffered memory. (http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=K7VM2)By DDR266 - Im assuming its referring to fact that the speed of compatible memory should be 266Mhz.I just opened my PC for the first time and looked at the memory currently installed. It currently has one stick (one slot is still free) and the label on this memory reads - TakeMS 512MB DDR PC400. I believe that this is 400MHz?To my understanding my PC has been running pretty much fine since I had it built, several years ago. Im now wondering - Is the TakeMS 512MB DDR PC400 actually the wrong memory (speed) for the motherboard? If it's been working this long, shall I just assume its fine? (I'm abit surprised that it works if the compatible memory stated by AsRock, should be 266Mhz). It is possible that the manufacturer has not listed all compatible memory?In relation to upgrading - I want to buy another 512mb memory stick to upgrade my ram to 1 Gig total. Shall I get a 266Mhz (512mb) one or another 400MHz one to go with the existing TakeMS 512MB DDR PC400? Does it matter at all? Will it effect the performance either way? Thanks in advance.
