Assalaamu 'Alaikum. Ok, here's the deal...................? I want to apply to Umm Al-Qura?

I got myself a problem. I'm 15 (16 in September) and I wanted to apply to Umm Al-Qura, I'm kean and want to be student of Deen so badly.....

Now I live in the U.K (time 3.10 a.m!), so the method of education is inevitably different. Every website tells me I need a "High School Diplomat" at Grade B. Now I need to know what (British) qualifications I need to get to be able to apply. Is it GCSE's or A levels and at what standard (Umm Al-Qura, done forget!).

Thank you in advance from your Muslim brother Mohamed.

Wassalaamu 'Alaikum.

  1. Salam bro! Your intense want to learn deen is a great thing brother.

As for your qualifications to get into that school, i THINK I got the hang of British school system.  You guys go up to 11th grade where you do your GSCE's, right? Then 2 years college, and 2 years Uni.  Right?  What is A levels exactly?  If A levels is what you get after completeing 2 years college, I think the GSCE's certificate would be considered as your high school diploma.

    ______

If A levels is finishing college for brits, I THINK that might be like getting Associate's Degree here- cuz you get your Associate's after 2 years of college. I think the GSCE's might be what is considered the high school diploma. I can't be sure tho. Sorry. =/

  2. As Salaam to you all,

Your wish and drean are commendable but may I suggest that you go to the website of St. David's University, Lampeter in Wales and find the email address of a Dr Mawl Izzi Dien a lecturer in Islamic Studies. He is a lecturer who once was in Saudi Arabia before becoming a lecturer at St. David's. If anyone can give you guidance, then he certainly can.

    Wa Salaam.

  3. Wa Alaikum as Salaam.

GCSE is equivalent to High School Diploma in the U.S.

I believe you can still apply to Umm al-Qurra with the GCSE. I take it you will first apply to the Ma'had? I suggest you put in your application soon, I'll ask one of the brothers at Umm al Qurra about the GCSE to make sure.

  4. It sounds like it can be either or. But they strongly suggest to finish undergrad studies, so in the long run it'd be easier to feed urself and family.
