Jammu and Kashmir 323 and 318 v Assam 165 and 241 - Jammu & Kashmir won by 235 runs
On Tuesday, Jammu and Kashmir beat Assam by 235 runs in their four-day Group C Ranji Trophy match that was played at Nehru Stadium, Guwahati.
This was an exciting clash between the two top teams and while J&K dominated the four days, their opponents were not pushed over as Assam also, at times, gave a matching performance.
Nonetheless, after having bolstered a first innings score of 323, J&K had gained an upper hand against their rivals and then maintained their lead throughout the match.
Assam, getting bowled-out for 165 in their first innings, were always in trouble and needed to halt their opposition in the next innings from scoring big, however, they failed as J&K smashed a nerve-racking score of 318, leaving Assam in utter disbelief.
They then ended the penultimate day after posting 46 runs for the loss of three wickets, and with another day to bat it was imperative for them to stay on the wicket for as long as possible.
However, the target of 477 was always a big ask, but Assam needed to keep their heads in the game to avoid an imminent defeat.
On the other hand, J&K knew that they had enough firepower in their bowling attack to hand http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Assam-c765 a big defeat.
On the final day, Assam opener DS Jadhav and middle-order batsman G Sharma began the proceedings, but could take the score to only 69 runs before they suffered the loss of their first wicket of the day when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Sharma-c58236 was trapped in front of stumps by Dayal after scoring only ten runs.
Tarjinder Singh then joined Jadhav in the centre and the two batsmen forged an intimidating partnership, taking the score to 124 before this batting duo played its last on the demise of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jadhav-c65258, who clobbered a 51-run knock.
While J&K bowlers made life of their opponents extremely difficult, they successfully bowled-out Assam on 241 runs. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tarjinder-Singh-c92849 was the best batsman from Assam for hammering a knock of 105.
