The four-day Group-C match in the ongoing Ranji Trophy was won by Assam on Monday against Tripura by ten wickets, at Nehru Stadium, Guwahati.
Tripura opened the final day of play by resuming their second innings from 168 for six with A Ratra on 47 and MB Murasingh on 41.
After getting outplayed in their first innings, it was imperative for Tripura to give a big performance in order to reduce Assam’s lead.
However, getting hammered for a massive total of 450 and then succumbing to 145 put them under tremendous pressure.
Nonetheless, the only way for them to end the match on a high was to stay in the middle for as long as possible to deny their opponents an eminent victory.
Ratra and Murasingh had all the pressure in the world on their shoulders and when they came out to bat, the only thing on their minds, was without a doubt, to find a way to see off the bowlers.
The start was impressive for Tripura as the two batsmen, with a tentative approach, took the score to 200 before Murasingh became the first wicket of the day after he had belted 62 runs.
Ratra was then joined by another talented batsman, TK Chanda, who exhibited his batting talents as the duo steered the side to 280.
The phenomenal partnership met its end on the wicket of TK Chanda, who perished after clobbering 58 off 78.
Still this seemed like Tripura’s day, as the fielding side faced another intimidating partnership with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rana-Dutta-c83902 and Ratra in the middle.
Assam needed to contain the batting side, however, Tripura were determined enough to give their opponents a tough time.
The ninth-wicket partnership took the team to a brilliant 354 before Ratra finally lost his concentration and got trapped in front of stumps after hammering an astounding knock of 124.
Finally the side faltered on 366 with TS Saha finding his way off the field after scoring six runs.
Requiring 62 to win, Assam comfortably reached the target without losing a wicket.
