Assassin’s Creed 3 confirmed for 2012 according to developer Ubisoft
Ubisoft, the game’s developer and publisher, have confirmed that fans can expect the next instalment in the Assassin’s Creed series to hit shelves next year in 2012.
The news broke during an earnings call, where Yves Guillemot, the Chief Executive Officer of Ubisoft, made the announcement that a new Assassin’s Creed game had been scheduled for release next year.
While the announcement itself was short and sweet, the CEO only put into words what everyone else already knew. That does not make the news any less mouth-watering though, as it added a timeframe for fans of the Assassin’s Creed universe in which they can
expect the game to come out.
However, Ubisoft are sure to have their hands full over the coming months with a number of games lined up for release. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations is only days from release and the hype surrounding their upcoming tactical third-person shooter, Ghost Recon:
Future Solider, coming to a gentle boil, there is time yet before anyone gets to hear even a whisper of what the next assassin adventure will hold in store.
Ubisoft have confirmed that the storylines for two of the main characters of the series will be coming to an end in Revelations, with both Altair, from the original Assassin’s Creed, and Ezio Auditore de Firenze, the protagonist of Assassin’s Creed 2, Assassin’s
Creed 2: Brotherhood and Revelations, making one last hurrah.
However, the mystery surrounding the fate of Desmond Miles, the present day descendant of the two Assassins is set to continue, yet in what shape or form is the real question. Brotherhood left everyone with a cliff-hanger of an ending with the protagonist
stabbing his partner before slipping into a coma.
Revelations should answer a number of questions, yet one of the traditions of the series has been to have endings which raises more questions than the answers it offers.
There is also the case of which time period the next game would take place in. Everything from the industrial revolution to America’s war of independence have done the rounds on the rumour mill yet none have seemed to stick.
At this point in time speculation on the next Assassin’s Creed game would be a tad premature, seeing how Revelations is so close to release. After seeing how the storyline in that game develops however, the real speculation can begin.
The Assassin’s Creed series seems to be following an annual release schedule and the next game seems to be following it to the letter. Some fans may be concerned that it may end up turning into what the FIFA and Modern Warfare series had turned into, but
there are those gamers who just cannot get enough of the game.
