Ubisoft’s latest game will also bring a taste of the next generation of consoles to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as well.
To say that the internet has exploded with Assassin’s Creed 3 info since yesterday would be an enormous understatement.
Ubisoft released the official reveal trailer, for the rebirth of the franchise, yesterday. Although the trailer was CGI, it did give away plenty of hints as to what the gameplay mechanics of the final game would encompass and so far fans of the series are excited.
One of the key talking points surrounding the game, apart from Connor – the half Native American, half British protagonist of the game – is the engine that will be powering Assassin’s Creed 3.
Dubbed ‘AnvilNext’ the engine is said to be able to render a thousand man battle as compared to the hundred man battle in recent games of the same series.
Alex Hutchinson, the creative director of the game, is someone who knows the risks involved with raising the gamer’s expectations too high yet there was a sense of nervous confidence in his tone when he said, “It’s a scary thing to say, but I think the goal was to look next-gen on current-gen.”
With that statement PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 console owner’s expectations of the game have had to have reached even greater heights than before.
Mr. Hutchinson explained that the latest instalment in the series would still have the same identity of the earlier games but it would build on them in new and exciting ways.
He explained, “We have this goal to do something completely new, but still remain true to the franchise.” Before continuing, “People want that familiarity, but also something radically new. So we have the familiar pillars of fighting, navigation, and social stealth, but brand new environments and brand new ways to use them and extend them.”
It seems that gamers can rest assured that the series will retain its trademark charm and immersion but with a few twists, tweaks and enhancements.
However, Connor and the team at Ubisoft have really raised the bar for themselves and come October the 31st they know they have to deliver.
Oh, and the game has also been confirmed for release on the Nintendo Wii U.
